Subject: Staff report
To the members of the planning commission,
I just read with some dismay the recommendations of the staff report.
While I take issue with many of their findings, there are a few things upon
which I would like to focus.
1. I met with Mr. Osborne at the County Clerk's office and asked him if
he had just bought into Taormina's PRB-1 spiel. I asked him if he
had ever read the second paragraph of PRB-1 which clearly states that while we
need to accommodate ham operators, you CANNOT BUILD A COMMERCIAL STYLE TOWER IN
A RESIDENTIAL AREA. How clear does that need to be?
Have any of you bothered to read this portion of the
law? If you have, why is there any question about whether the towers are
protected?
2. The staff report says "there is no evidence of
a visual impact on the residential area". You can't see it from your
kitchen window so there's no visual impact? I have to look at those ugly
monstrosities every time I look out my kitchen window or go out my front
door. Ask the Meades, the Adkins, or any of the other people who have to
look at his garbage every day if they think it has "an impact" on
their lifestyle.
3. All of the towers over 45 feet violate county codes
and since the local emergency management people say they don't need or want his
assistance, why would you continue with this charade?
4. Taormina wants these towers so he can play ham
radio operator games. That's what it's all about. If he were truly
concerned about providing emergency communications in time of a disaster, he
could do it with ONE 45 foot tower. We don't need to be able to talk to Pakistan.
5. I filed a nuisance complaint with Storey County 2 years
ago about the towers. Are you aware of what State law says about nuisance
complaints?
The county may be in violation of state law by not dealing
with my complaint.
6. Two years ago we submitted copies of a petition
with over 100 signatures demanding that the towers be taken down. Why do
you think we will agree to a variance? Why would you ignore the wishes of
100 residents who find the towers intolerable?
7. The planning commission exists to insure that unsightly
garbage like the towers don't get erected. You need to look out for those of us
who have this garbage in our back yards.
Thanks,
Buddy R. Morton
