A Modest Proposal For
1. The number of coronavirus patients will overwhelm the hospitals. And people with other (treatable) problems won’t be able to get in.
2. Tourism will fall off the cliff.
Here is the solution, using the Atlantis (https://atlantiscasino.com/resort) as an example.
Repurpose it so that:
1. Tower 1 will be for people under quarantine.
2. Tower 2 will be for people who test positive and have started showing symptoms but do not need intensive care.
3. Tower 3 will be for people who need intensive care. The beds in those rooms will be replaced with hospital beds and have monitoring equipment and ventilators (when necessary).
There will be a shortage of doctors, nurses, and other staff so they will have to work longer hours. They will be allowed to stay in the luxury suites.
The restaurants at the Atlantis have excellent food. Some people will fight to stay alive just for the food.
I have stayed at the Atlantis and I have “stayed” at Renown’s hospitals. I prefer the Atlantis.
The casino will remain open to the general public. Gamblers are accustomed to (and thrive on) taking risks. After all, they are gamblers.
The repurposed Atlantis will be called The Atlantis Hospital and Casino.
Other hotel casinos can be similarly repurposed.
Everything will be paid for by the Federal Government. The survivors of this global pandemic can argue about whether this is socialism later. Besides, it will cost less than what regular hospitals charge.
